Self-awareness & Identity in Missional Leadership

Starting date

Apply Now

Self-awareness is key to understanding: understanding yourself, understanding others, understanding Scripture, and, of course, for growing in understanding of God. It might sound obvious, but it is worth pointing out that that you always take yourself with you, whether you are aware of it or not! A grounded identity will help you to lead in a more confident or ‘undefended’ way.

About

In this course you will learn to compare and integrate your understanding and experience of leadership with a deeper exploration of biblical perspectives; you will grow in understanding who you are and how this impacts your approach to missional leadership. You will think deeply about how the early chapters of the Bible present God’s original mission for humanity. You will consider and share how these perspectives about leadership compare with your own cultural background and context.

This course will build on the ‘Reimagining mission and learning in community’ course. In this way you will be able to train a group on the theme of self-awareness and identity.

The primary aims of this course are

Become familiar with how ‘reading the Bible as story’ can be a tool for engaging with Scripture and identifying how Scripture highlights certain themes.

Develop the ability to connect - in a contextual way - God, Scripture, people and self as interpreter in order to embody God’s mission together.

Grow in self-awareness by understanding better how your interpretation of God, people and others shapes your relationships and your approach to mission.
