Reimagining Mission & Learning in Community

In today’s world, we experience rapid change, movement, and choice. Social media networks are coming and going, all demanding time and energy. Media at our fingertips, beckoning attention, requiring discernment. The global market is seeking to direct buying habits and desires. We exist in a worldwide crash of cultures as people move and work, some by choice, others not. Is it any wonder in this chaos we call life, Christians can struggle to understand and fulfil their mission calling?

About

In this course, we discuss relevant questions that arise from the situation in which we find ourselves. How do we develop individual and communal practices that form who we are in Christ amid a chaotic world? What does it mean to live life with others in this multi-voiced community, this mosaic of worldviews? How does mission, centered on learning, lead to relationships and holistic engagement–in the community and by the community. What do teamwork and leadership look like in this intercultural society? Are there assessment strategies that can be formative and nurture practice? And whose mission is it anyway?

This is a course for anyone who has these questions. And, if you need to develop your own local plan for ministry and mission, or you have a project that you want to revise and take to the next level, this course is perfect for you as well. Every student will have the opportunity to apply what they learn in the course immediately and develop or revise a mission project or even a local mission training course.

The main aims of this course are

Apply adult learning skills and practices in your leadership, mission engagement, and training.

Learn how to integrate the practical theological cycle in your life and mission or ministry context.

Develop practices of discernment in this multi-voiced, intercultural world.

Understand how assessment can help nurture teamwork, mission practice, and formation.
